Steve and I started off in La Habana (Havana), visiting our friend and dance teacher Jaime, who had been staying in Switzerland from January through March. The weather was much nicer this time around than last time and I got a much better impression of the city. See also Links on Havana.

The perfect Cuban picture
This photo, taken by Steve, totally captures Cuba for me
Boy playing baseball in the street
Baseball, or "beisbol" as it's called here, is at least as popular as in the US
Painted mural in Centro Habana
Painted murals are an Artform in Havana
Coppelia Ice Cream Parlor in Vedado
La Coppelia, the ice cream parlor made world famous by the movie Fresa y Chocolate

Street in Habana Vieja
Around La Habana Vieja, about half the streets look like this. Easy to get lost
The Granma on display
Museo de la Revolución, displaying the Granma, the famous yacht of the 59 revolution
The revolutionary palace
Palacio de la revolución, one of the governmental palaces of Fidel Castro
The Capitolio looks strikingly like the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The Capitolio was built with its Washington, D.C. cousin in mind

Steve likes to photograph dogs
Lazy dogs on the steps of the Capitolio
Sunset on silent witnesses of Havana's glorious past
Evening sunlight adds a touch of class...
Heaven for architecture buffs
to the run-down façades opposite the Capitol
And heaven for lovers of fifties cars
Quite possibly the best place in Havana to watch 50's American cars

'51 Chevy with chauffeur
You can easily hitch a ride in one of them. The driver, however, is risking severe penalty
'58 Plymouth Fury
Tailfins galore!
Cine La Rampa movie theater in Vedado
Cine La Rampa on Calle 23, with the usual queue around the block
Fifties Studebaker
We walked up and down La Rampa no less than 7 times in pursuit of flight tickets

Car repairs out in the streets
Car repairs happen out on the street. All the neighbors try to help
More painted murals
Mural paintings can be found in all parts of town
I was afraid this cop might turn around and arrest us
There is noticeable police presence in the streets
The girl on the left claimed it was her birthday. It worked. I paid her a drink.
Having fun at the Capri Club in La Habana Vieja

This beauty was with an about 50 year old Italian guy. It was all we could do to not break out crying.
