Oria/Cuba 2001 - Cuba - Santiago - Casa de las Tradiciones

Probably the best music and dancing venue in Santiago is the Casa de las Tradiciones. Always live music, always a lively crowd and you never have to sit down as you're always asked to dance.

We did a night tour of Santiago with our newfound friends Ulises and Bartolo
The complete gang pulling up in the '51 Buick
Catholicism is mostly a red herring for the native Afro-Cuban beliefs
The walls are decorated with a hodgepodge of paintings and newspaper clippings
This place is usually packed with a 50/50 mix of Cubans and tourists
I've never seen the Casa de las Tradiciones NOT packed full
The walls are decorated with photos of famous guests
Genuine Cuban ambience

People dance everywhere, not just on the dance floor
Ruminis was called to dance all the time
She's half my height, so when we dance, she's usually suspended in mid-air
Sweeping Yulima across the dance floor
I have no idea what this guy was dancing, but it sure wasnt' the Salsa I had learned
We tried a rueda with a local, but he did something completely different from me
The guy in the back was dead drunk
This time it worked

I don't know how this woman did it, but getting Steve to dance is quite an accomplishment
The spirit in the Casa de las Tradiciones is so contagious, even Steve danced Salsa
